Rashid K. Thomas, Sr.

Since I was a little boy, I've always been drawn to dogs.  It didn't matter what shape, size or breed, I just loved dogs.  If you spent any time with my family or friends, you would hear countless stories about me and my dogs.  My very first dog, believe it or not was a wolf.  My dad said "if you can train this, you can have any animal you want."  So I set out to train this wolf, "Blackie".  Since then, it has been my goal to train any dog to be the best, most loyal, trustworthy pet a person could have.  About 11 years ago I decided to focus on one of the greatest breeds I ever had the pleasure of coming in contact with.  The American Bulldog, to me, is the "universal soldier of dogs."  In 2004, we purchased our first one, Simba.  He turned my wife, a person who was absolutely terrified of dogs into a woman who now won't sleep without one nearby.  He has done everything from letting us know when the baby was crying to saving my son from drowning.  You have no idea the research and hours I spent finding out everything possible about this breed.  I have had the pleasure of having countless conversations with some of J.D. Johnson's close personal friends who are also lovers of the breed.  I have also sought out dogs with the imprint of other great breeders such as Alan Scott and Dr. Jackson.  These breeders had a vast knowledge and genuine love for the breed.  They also had a vision.  Before purchasing Simba, I knew exactly what I wanted.  His personality and intelligence was unbelievable.  He came from an awesome bloodline and I must say Lemuel Miller of Joshua Kennels knows his way around breeding some of the best Ol' Southern Whites I have ever seen. Before deciding that this was going to become the "family business" I had to find all the pieces to this breed to make the perfect, true to type American Bulldog.  Which brings me to now.  Over the years, I've learned alot about what these dogs are capable of.  I've also been fortunate to have endless knowledge from Edward Rhew who is a close personal friend of mine and also a lover of the breed.  He has provided me with insights to some of J.D. Johnson's best creations. He has given me great advice and support and still continues to this day and I can't thank him enough for that.  He, along with Wayne Groce, another lover of the breed have given me the knowledge to pay hommage to some the greatest breeders of the past by bringing back the original foundation American Bulldogs...this is my goal.
